Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c Release 5 Update 5 (13.5.0.5) Is Now Available!

Key Updates in RU5

This update of EM 13.5 introduces yet another set of new features designed to enhance the value and the overall customer experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager.  Here is a list of these new features:

Rapid Platform Update

The new Oracle Management Service (OMS) patching method, the Rapid Platform Update, allows EM Administrators the flexibility to patch the OMS in phases and choose a downtime window that is most appropriate for the business.  In addition, using this patching method, the downtime window is significantly reduced.

The Rapid Platform Update method first creates a clone of the existing EM middleware home and patching updates are applied to this clone. Similarly, the repository database updates are applied to a new database edition created using the Edition-Based Redefinition (EBR) database capability.  The new database edition ensures the continuous availability of EM during the initial updates. When the system is ready for a short downtime, during a scheduled maintenance window, the primary OMS is brought down, the OMS home changes are applied, and the repository is switched to the new, updated, database edition.

Announcing New Database Password Rotation with Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5 RU1

In release EM13.5 RU1, EM has expanded automation for password rotation capabilities to include non-monitoring database users. In previous releases, password rotation automation was available only for the default database monitoring (dbsnmp) users using the job type “Change the Password for the Database Monitoring User”. The new feature is available using a new job type “Change the Password for a Database User”.

Since it is available as a job, this provides you flexibility in scheduling when and how often passwords should be changed. The job can be run against many databases at a time, greatly reducing the time it would take to complete the password rotation task. This is especially beneficial when working with hundreds or thousands of databases.
