EM12c Monitoring Best Practices

Some weeks ago I posted an article on my blog after attending Ana McCollum’s presentation “Beyond the Basics: Making the Most of Oracle Enterprise Manager Monitoring” at OOW 2012.

In this document I further elaborated my notes to give a good overview of all topics discussed during the presentation. All credits for Ana!

To my opinion this document could very good be the bases for your guys “EM12c Best Practices” document.

I included some snippets of pictures I took of the slides during the presentation. They are bit blurry (sorry for that), but I hope they will give a bit more understanding.

Closure – OOW – see you next year

Finally after a week of hard working 20+ sessions and 30+ parties, we can finalize this week. What a terrific week it was, had several interesting discussions with EM product team members, Sushil Kumar and many others.

Yesterday evening at the appreciation event Kings of Leon and Pearl Jam that were really awesome, today at the final closure event in the Yerba Buena Garden I first saw the Swedish “The Hives”. These guys really put down a terrific show!

Let me just try to upload some videos….

Next time these guys are in Holland we definitely go there!

Ok, just had a great time here again at Oracle Open World , spend several days with some young dogs in an apartment at North Beach where we had several interesting discussions having a nice Italian wine and some terrific looks….

Thanks to my 3 companions for this week: Jan, Aiman and Juriaan, hope to meet soon again…

Thanks guys and see you next year….

General Session: Using Oracle Enterprise Manager to Manage Your Own Private Cloud

Sushil Kumar talking on EM Cloud Control.

EM12c seems to be a very popular Release, getting a lot of positive feedback.

Recently released Release 2, OPS Centre 12c last summer and ATS 12c.

Release is primarly a stability release, but also included several new features

  • Java Platform as a Service
  • Business Application Dashboard, gathering all related data in one page.
  • Enhanced Exalogic Management

The release was for all major platforms on the same day!

Oracle OpenWorld Keynote: Shift Complexity

Sitting in the Yerba Buena Garden, listening to Andy Mendelsohn talking about Oracle Database 12c.

Here my staccato notes:

Container databases to include multiple Databases as we know them (before 12c) to do database consolidation.

Demoing Pluggable Databases

As to be expected the demo runs in an EM12c console.

Resource Management now realy comes true.

Simplify Patching and Upgrades

Apply changes once, all pluggable Databases updated

Backup Databases as one, Recover at Pluggable Databases

Fast flexible copy and snapshot of pluggable databases, cloning databases for test, development etc.

Perfect for SaaS

New architecture for consolidating databases on Clouds

Sounds like a great improvement and should be released soon!

Starting up for OOW

Yesterday had a beautiful ride through Napa Valley, the Silverado Trail and then via Santa Rosa and Bodega Bay back to San Francisco on Highway 1. Yes of course on a Harley Davidson Streetglide…. My companions Jan and Juriaan riding a Streetglide and Sportster.

This morning after returning the bikes at Eaglerider went to Moscone Center to get my OOW Pass.

Tonight I will participate the Oracle ACE diner and than starting to get serious tomorrow morning…
